Latest Learning 2025-2026

06.03.26 - World Book Day!

This afternoon, the children enjoyed celebrating World Book Day with a range of activities linked to bedtime stories. They were busy using their gross motor skills and getting creative with paint as they worked together to make a beanstalk for the story Jack and the Beanstalk. The children showed great enthusiasm as they explored the paint and helped the beanstalk grow across the paper.

We also explored plants and planting through our senses. The children used sight, touch, taste and smell to investigate different materials, noticing how each one looked, felt and even tasted. This sensory exploration supported their curiosity and helped them engage fully with the theme.

The children then created their own puppets to go with the story. They used simple materials and their creative skills to cut out pictures and turn them into puppets, bringing the characters to life in their own way.

During shaving foam play, many of the children imagined the foam was clouds as they spread it across the table. They used their fingers to make marks and write their names, supporting their fine motor development and early mark-making skills.

It was a very enjoyable afternoon, and the children engaged wonderfully with all of the activities.

27.02.26 - Communication!

This week we’ve been celebrating the children’s growing confidence as they use their communication boards throughout the day. It has been wonderful to see them expressing their wants, needs, and choices with increasing independence. The boards have helped them tell us what they would like to play with and the resources or equipment they need in the different areas they explore. Their enthusiasm has shone through, and we’re so proud of how they are using their voices in their own way.

09.01.26- Literacy!

Helpful Heroes & Super Sentences!

Our Word of the Week was “help.” To deepen understanding, we role-played real-life scenarios where someone might need help and discussed how we can offer it. This gave the children a chance to use the word in context and explore what being helpful looks like in everyday life.

We also used Colourful Semantics to build descriptions about characters from our story “Dr Ranj: A Superhero Like You.” The children focused on the sentence structure:

Who? Doing what? What?

This helped them create clear and meaningful descriptions while learning how to organise their ideas and expand their vocabulary.

We’re so proud of the creativity and enthusiasm the children have shown this week—our classroom is full of superheroes in action!

12.12.25 - Maths!

Rainbow 2 this week in Maths, we’ve been exploring patterns! The children had a wonderful time using Numicon to create eye-catching mirror patterns and repeating patterns. They worked carefully to spot shapes and sequences, showing fantastic creativity and problem-solving skills. Well done, everyone!

05.12.25 - Literacy!

~In Rainbow 2 this week in Literacy, our class has been exploring Colourful Semantics to bring our sentences to life! Using our story ‘Let’s Celebrate’, we worked hard to build sentences by answering ‘Who?’, ‘Doing what?’, and ‘What?’. The children loved creating exciting sentences about enjoyed sharing their ideas with friends.

In Rainbow 1 and 2 this week, our story has ‘Whatever Next!’. The children have loved diving into sensory storytelling, exploring sights, sounds, and textures to bring the adventure to life. They had so much fun recreating the story, imagining their own journeys to the moon and beyond!

28.11.25 - Ten Pin Bowling Activity!

We are delighted to share that our recent ten-pin event placed a strong focus on personal development, giving children the opportunity to learn and grow new skills in a supportive environment.

Each child was proudly awarded a medal for their participation, celebrating their effort and enthusiasm. They enjoyed a lively game of ten-pin bowling alongside pupils from other schools. The activity included a friendly element of low-level competition, which encouraged teamwork, resilience, and lots of laughter.

Our children had an amazing time and, as always, represented our school with Bankside Best behaviours. We are so proud of the way they conducted themselves and embraced the spirit of the day.

14.11.25 - Children in Need!

In Rainbow 3 class we really enjoyed taking part in the challenge yourself 25 Children In Need activities!

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

This week we learnt about Remembrance Day. The children talked about why we remember people who helped in the past. They made poppies to show respect.

The children took part in lots of mark‑making activities. They used their fine motor skills in different ways, such as cutting with scissors, colouring, and shaping their poppies.

These activities helped them practise important skills while learning about history and peace.

10.10.25 - Science!

This week we’ve been exploring the magic of autumn while building our personal, social and emotional skills. The children have been sharing discoveries, taking turns, and expressing how the season makes them feel. Using our senses, we touched crunchy leaves, smelled autumn scents, and spotted beautiful colours all around us. We also enjoyed drawing pumpkins and printing with leaves, working together to create lovely autumn artwork. It’s been a calm, creative week full of sensory fun and teamwork!

26.09.25 - Maths!

This week in the Rainbow Unit, children have been engaging with Numicon through matching activities and interactive games. These experiences are supporting their early mathematical development, building recognition of number patterns, and strengthening problem-solving skills in a hands-on and enjoyable way.

19.09.25 - Reading!

In Rainbow Classrooms, We have been celebrating our love of reading! Our learners have been working hard to develop their reading skills this week. The children have been practising recognising letters and words, building their phonics knowledge, and using these skills to read simple sentences. We have also been exploring different texts—stories, poems, and information books—to spark curiosity and broaden vocabulary.

It has been wonderful to see the children’s confidence grow as they read aloud to adults and peers, answer questions about the text, and share their ideas. Reading is helping them to build independence, strengthen communication, and discover new interests.

📖 Ideas for supporting reading at home:

  • Encourage your child to read signs, labels, or menus when you are out and about.

  • Read together, taking turns with a page or sentence.

  • Ask questions such as “Who was your favourite character?” or “Why do you think that happened?”

  • Celebrate effort and progress—whether it’s sounding out tricky words, reading fluently, or talking about what they’ve read.

Together, we are building a strong foundation for a lifelong love of reading! 🌈

12.09.25 - Welcome Back to School!

This week, the children in Rainbow 1 and 2 have been busy exploring their new environments and settling back into school life after the long summer break. They have enjoyed discovering the different areas of their classrooms, getting to know new friends, and building confidence with daily routines.

We are so proud of how quickly they are adapting, showing curiosity, independence, and a growing sense of belonging in their new learning spaces. It’s been a wonderful start, and we’re excited to see how they continue to grow and flourish in the weeks ahead!

Latest Learning 2024-2025!

13.12.24 - Regulation!

Why is regulation time important?

Regulation time enables children to adjust to new situations, reflect on and adapt their behaviours, focus their attention, remember instructions, and plan how to approach tasks successfully. A lot of children use the den to regulate their emotions. Regulation time can look different for every child. Some children like to draw, some like to complete puzzles, do planks, have bounce time and much more. School is a busy place with lots of demands and expectations. Sometimes we need a few minutes to calm our minds to get ready to go back into our learning and be successful.

06.12.24 - The Den!

This week in social understanding and friendship group we designed and began to colour our friendship posters along with talking about healthy and unhealthy friendships. The children identified that healthy friendships are when people are kind and care about each. They also said unhealthy friendships are where someone isn't kind and doesn't listen to you. We then went on to read different scenarios and decide if they were healthy or not healthy.
