Latest Learning 2026-2027!

This week we have enjoyed welcoming the children back to school into Year 5. As a school, we have been exploring a Better Together project to help celebrate community. We have been looking at the book 'Mixed' and the year 5 children enjoyed stimulating discussions relating to themes of the book. They were tasked with making a year group tree for display with the leaves being for the individual child, the trunk looking at diversity and the roots representing heritage - all of which are important to us. 

In Year 5, we have also looked at a book called The Dot, which helps to promote confidence and empathy with each other. Children used their photograph to trace round and produce a unique portrait of themselves using a pointillism technique to represent the dots in the story. 

The children are relishing exploring the new classroom books and recommending their favourites to their friends. A group of boys decided to read the same book with each other which was a lovely experience.

03.07.26 - French!

Here are year 5 children hard at work in their French lesson. They have learnt to read, write and speak French using different topics throughout the year. Today, they enjoyed researching France and producing a fact file about the country. 

26.06.26 - Sports Day!

Today we held our sports day for upper key stage two in the local park. The weather was hot but the effort was exceptional. The children used collaboration to work together in their teams and individually showed resilience to try their Bert for their team. The children were very supportive of each other and we had a fabulous time together. 

 

19.06.26 - Children's University Visit!

This week, a group of children went to a Children's University event at Leeds Trinity University. It was an activity day where the children participated in sporting team building and forest school activities The combination of physical teamwork and outdoor exploration helped to strengthen bonds, build confidence and give everyone a chance to shine in different ways, all while enjoying the calm and creativity that comes from being outside in the fresh air and a natural environment. It was a pleasure to observe the children happily working together within this environment.

 

12.06.26 - Zoo Lab!

Year 5 were buzzing with excitement during our visit from Zoolab this week. They brought a fascinating collection of rainforest creatures to support our geography topic on the Rainforest. The children had the chance to get up close to animals, and even hold some, such as giant African land snails, stick insects, snakes, and we even saw a tarantula, all of this helping them understand how these species have adapted to life in the humid, densely layered rainforest environment. As they handled the animals and asked thoughtful questions, the children made clear links to their learning about rainforest habitats, food chains and the importance of biodiversity. The session brought the topic to life in a memorable, hands‑on way that deepened their curiosity about the natural world.
